We often see men in ministry and overlook the importance of a couple in ministry. When God joins a man and woman they become one. If God then leads the man or the woman into ministry, the call is on them both, whether they like it or not.
On Monday 11 April, Michael and I attended a very unusual event run by the Church of the Nazarene. This turned out to be such a blessing to us and I would like to share this with you.
The purpose of the meeting was to encourage couples in ministry. Pastors along with their wives meet to discuss God’s Word and exhort each other from the Scriptures. It was the first time I attended such a meeting and it was a great encouragement for me.
The thing is many couples in ministry don’t recognize the role of the spouse in ministry. The husband is the pastor and the wife does her own thing. She may tend the family and the home or have a career of her own outside the home, but is she involved and invested in the ministry with her husband?
Wife in Ministry
There are so many challenges for a couple in ministry. What role does the wife play? How do they raise their children in a Godly way without causing them to hate God? Should the wife also be involved in the church service?
Proverbs 31 verse 11-12 highlights the value of the wife in ministry for me.
“Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”
Teamwork in Ministry
This meeting encouraged me as it highlighted the importance of us working together as a team. The truth is that I am part of the ministry that Michael does. I can add value to the team and the ministry. Even if it is just me ironing his shirt or listening to his sermon notes,
I pray that the Lord will help me to be a woman of noble character. A woman in whom my husband can have full confidence, who will bring him good and not harm all the days of my life.
