Family News

Greetings from our lively home in Zambia! Our new life with Caleb is full of excitement and surprises—he’s growing so fast and has just started walking. Our once-tidy home is now a whirlwind of activity, but the joy he brings is beyond measure. His cheeky sense of humour and contagious laughter lights up every room and every heart. We can’t wait for you to meet him.

This past month, we took a much needed week-long family holiday—our first as a trio! We stayed at Kampamba House, a place completely off-grid, with no cellphone signal. We just soaked in the stillness. It was a very special time of family bonding, resting, and resetting for the year ahead.

“Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him. “
Psalm 62:1

Our cottage at Kampamba House had a magnificent view over the valley
We had great 'quiet' times for reading
We went for walks
Caleb made it all the way up to the top of Leopard's Hill - with a little help
The view from the top of Leopard's Hill was beautiful. Kampamba House can be seen in the valley.
Caleb was getting brave as he got to know Byron the dog.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

Church News

Although January is nearly over, we can’t skip celebrating December’s highlights. Christ Church Lusaka had its first baptism service on December 1st, where more than 20 people took this important step of faith. It was a moment of great joy for the church family!

Over 20 people baptised in the hotel swimming pool. What a joyous occasion it was!

A Bittersweet Zambian Wedding

Near the end of December, Michael officiated the wedding of Eliel Kayumba, daughter of Rev. Paul Kayumba. While we celebrated her new chapter, it was bittersweet as it marks her transition to a different church with her husband. Eliel has been a cornerstone of our Children’s Ministry, and her absence will be deeply felt. Yet we trust that God will raise new workers for His harvest.

Preaching in the New Year

We kicked off the year with “Vision Sunday,” where Michael shared the church’s direction and a new working committee was introduced to guide the church growth and ministry efforts. Currently, we’re in a sermon series on the Big Five Doctrines of Grace—creatively tied to Africa’s Big Five animals! It’s been a foundational and thought-provoking  journey for our congregation.

On the first Sunday of the year, Michael preached from Isaiah 43. His sermon was entitled: A Water Way in the Wilderness.

As a church plant, Christ Church Lusaka is facing many challenges as we look to establish the church properly and become a constituent church of the Reformed Evangelical Anglican Church of Southern Africa. Michael’s sermon encouraged the church to look to the Way that God has made in the wilderness – that is, look to Jesus.

Our first preaching series for 2025

Our rector, Rev. Dr. Paul Kayumba felt that a series on the foundational Reformed doctrines is what our church needs at this time. So we are doing a 5-part series in the Doctrines of Grace commonly known by the acronym TULIP. Michael preached on Limited Atonement last week and will preach on Irresistible Grace this Sunday.

“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me…and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
John 10:14-15

New Roles

Both Michael and I have stepped into new ministry roles this year. I’m now the Zambian Hub Coordinator for Entrust, a women’s ministry and discipleship training organization that I have greatly benefitted from. This role of coordinator allows me to stay engaged with the ministry while being present for Caleb. It’s been a wonderful balance of ministry and family.

Michael  is serving on the Interim Leadership Committee for the Langham Preaching Zambia, which supports pastors and leaders in biblical teaching. Langham Preaching is a powerful tool to help pastors, preachers and Bible teachers to teach the Bible exegetically.

Langham Preaching:

  • Helps pastors and leaders develop a deeper understanding of the Bible
  • Helps pastors and leaders strengthen their theological training
  • Helps pastors and leaders develop lasting discipleship
  • Helps pastors and leaders develop indigenous biblical preaching movements
  • Helps pastors and leaders develop practical, biblically based training

We’re grateful for these opportunities to serve and grow.

Thank you for journeying with us through life and ministry. Your prayers and encouragement mean the world to us!

Praise God For:

  • providing for our financial needs in this new year.
  • Caleb being home with us and settling in well.
  • the time of rest that we were able to have this past month.
  • opening doors for Renee to serve in ministry with Entrust while still being available for the family.
  • the Baptism service where over 20 people were baptised at Christ Church Lusaka
  • our apprentice Paul Ngoma who is faithful in his service and growing in his knowledge of God’s Word.

Pray For:

  • wisdom as we learn to parent Caleb
  • us to find the right balance of family and ministry and that we would be faithful in both areas
  • the children’s ministry at Christ Church Lusaka – that faithful people would come forward to help us teach the children
  • the church working committee – that they would be eager and motivated to help this church grow and that they would have wisdom as they make decisions for the church.
  • the new memorandum of understanding that is being drawn up in the next month between SIM and REACH-Zambia. Pray that it would be helpful to both ourselves and the growth of the church.
